Liv Cycling, in partnership with the Liv AlUla Jayco Women’s Continental Team, has announced a new initiative aimed at providing opportunities for young, developing road cyclists. The Grassroots Programme, a training camp held in the Netherlands from May 9-15, welcomes four exceptional international guest cyclists who will receive the same coaching and support as professional riders.
The four attending riders are Gabriela López (Colombia, 21), Lotte Borremans (Finland, 15), Niamh Murphy (United Kingdom, 18), and Malou Eisen (Netherlands, 24). These athletes were selected from a larger list of submissions based on their measured skill and potential, as suggested by Liv Cycling markets around the world.
During the training camp, the selected riders will participate in workshops on equipment and nutrition, endurance training, and recovery rides. They will also undergo power profile tests, allowing coaches to assess their physical capabilities.
Phoebe Liu, Giant Group Chief Branding Officer, emphasized the importance of support from coaches and trainers for developing athletes, stating, “Despite how essential this is for aspiring professional cyclists, it’s often unavailable due to location and cost. It is important to Liv to lower these barriers, which is why we launched the Grassroots Programme for young women with Liv AlUla Jayco’s Continental Team.”
The Grassroots Programme aims to recognize emerging competitive racers from around the world, especially from regions where opportunities for aspiring professional athletes are limited. Cassondra Spring, Liv Cycling Global Brand Manager, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, saying, “The Grassroots Programme brings forth a new opportunity to recognize emerging competitive racers, by way of our trusted partners championing young women from their communities.”
Eric van den Boom, General Manager of the Liv AlUla Jayco Continental Team, highlighted the significance of the Grassroots Programme in developing talents and potential within women’s cycling. “With the Grassroots Programme, we are creating a professional platform where women from all over the world get the chance to put themselves in the spotlight,” said van den Boom.
After the training camp concludes, Liv Cycling and Liv AlUla Jayco’s Continental Team will share the experiences of the four riders and provide updates on any notable emerging opportunities.
