Links We Like

There's a load of cycling websites out there. To help you find your way around the internet's winding road, here are some sites that we find particularly interesting, useful ― and friendly to RoadBikeRider.com.

If you have a favorite site that you think we should consider listing here, please send the URL to feedback@roadbikerider.com.

Check back occasionally because this resource continues to grow.

BIKES & PRODUCTS

www.bikefriday.com -- RBR's Ed Pavelka was one of the first "serious" roadies to own a Bike Friday travel bike, and he still loves it. If you want to take a bike when you fly, you simply can't afford not to have one of these. (See what Ed did on his Pocket Rocket.)

www.boure.com -- our friend Ned Overend is a co-owner of this cycling clothing company in Durango, Colorado. Good stuff from a good guy, and they do custom orders too.

www.co-motion.com -- Ed met Joleen thanks to his Co-Mo tandem, and now they're happily married. 'Nuf said! Fine bikes, plus a site with loads of helpful tech info. Makes tandem shopping easier.

www.joneswares.com -- a family-owned New England business specializing in high-performance wool clothing for cyclists and other athletes. Nobody does wool better, and custom orders are welcome.

www.litespeed.com -- Litespeed supplied a Vortex and Blade to each member of Ed Pavelka's Race Across America senior team in 1996. The guys will never stop appreciating it. Super bikes! The team set a still-standing world record on 'em.

www.peterwhitecycles.com -- a world-focused shop specializing in lighting systems, custom wheels, tandem equipment, touring gear, unusual goodies and a wealth of website info (with attitude).

www.rivbike.com -- Rivendell Bicycle Works supplies classic lugged steel frames, hard-to-find retro equipment and an unconventionally traditional attitude.

www.spectrum-cycles.com -- Tom Kellogg designs and builds exceptional frames. He has also built an exceptional website, full of his technical knowledge and no-apologies opinions.

RIDES & TOURS

www.adventurecorps.com  -- owner Chris Kostman promotes some of the toughest cycling and running events on the planet, including the fearsome Furnace Creek 508 (miles) bike race through Death Valley.

www.bicycleadventureclub.org -- this non-profit club offers 30-40 North American and overseas tours each year, led by members to keep costs down. Impressive venues and prices.

www.caltriplecrown.com -- packed full of info by true-blue roadie Chuck Bramwell, a key figure in endurance cycling. Winners of the California Triple Crown are truly elite long-distance riders because they've completed at least three double centuries in one year.

www.pactour.com -- for serious endurance cyclists, PAC Tour offers rapid transcontinental rides, training camps, and other opportunities to go the distance. Owned and operated by Race Across America champions Lon Haldeman and Susan Notorangelo.

www.ridetherockies.com -- the annual cross-Colorado tour, sponsored by the Denver Post, is a popular way to experience the challenges of pedaling through the Rocky Mountains.

www.vivatravels.com -- company owner and eBook author Jennifer Sage specializes in money-saving self-supported tours to some of the world's great places for riding a bike.

www.athleticamps.com -- AthletiCamps in NorCal caters to cyclists and triathletes with a staff that includes big names such as Dr. Eric Heiden, Dr. Massimo Testa, Mike Carter and Leonard "Harvey" Nitz.

www.bikecamp.com -- get the skinny on excellent camps in the U.S. and Italy run by Olympic champion Connie Carpenter and her husband, Davis Phinney, the winner of more road races than any rider in American history (328). They know road riding!

www.johnhowardsports.com -- John Howard, America's dominant roadie in the early 1970s, coaches cyclists and triathletes with the knowledge that put him into the Olympics and the winner's circle of the Hawaii Ironman.

www.trainright.com -- this'll take you to Carmichael Training Systems and its full range of coaching options. Don't let Lance get a leg up on you! Go to the same guy who coaches him, Chris Carmichael.

ORGANIZATIONS

www.adventurecycling.org -- the Adventure Cycling Association is a leading source of maps, tours, and touring products.

www.bikeleague.org -- the League of American Bicyclists works through advocacy and education to foster a bike-friendly America. Don't just sit there -- join!

www.cascade.org -- Cascade Bicycle Club is the largest bike club in the nation and could well have the biggest website, too. Cascade's annual Seattle-to-Portland ride (STP) is an American classic.

www.rusa.org -- Randonneurs USA sanctions the nationwide series of long-distance brevets. These are qualifying rides for the epic randonnee called Paris-Brest-Paris and its North American counterpart, Boston-Montreal-Boston.

www.ultracycling.com -- official site of the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association, the sanctioning body of many endurance events. Includes details about the Year-Rounder Mileage Challenge. You gotta belong to the UMCA if you love riding long!

www.arniebakercycling.com -- the website of national masters champion and coach Arnie Baker, M.D., with training information and all of his books for sale.

www.cyclingnews.com -- our favorite source for worldwide news of pro road racing and other cycling disciplines, along with rider diaries, product news, reviews and tons of photos and videos.

www.cyclogs.co.uk -- a nifty free site in England that lets you record and analyze your ride data and compare it to other roadies around the world.

www.drmirkin.com -- Gabe Mirkin, M.D., is an avid cyclist in his 70s who provides a ton of helpful medical info on his site and in his free health & fitness newsletter.

www.fitday.com -- here's a free nutritional website that helps you lose weight with calorie calculation, including the number you burn on the job and while riding.

gps.about.com -- Fred Zahradnik, a longtime roadie and RBR product tester, is about.com's guru for all kinds of global positioning devices. Quite an education!

www.howiebikeman.com -- fascinating photos and descriptions of thousands of cycling items in Howie Cohen's Everything Bicycles Collection. He and his family have been in the bike biz since 1939.

www.hubbub.com -- this Cleveland-area bike shop comes under the "Information" heading because of its unique "technical calculator." Not for rocket scientists only (but it might help!).

www.jimlangley.net -- longtime cycling mechanic/writer/collector Jim Langley has filled his site with tips, tricks, stories, reviews, repair articles, and dozens of vintage cycling illustrations. Jim also serves as a technical consultant to RoadBikeRider.com.

www.nohypehealth.org -- a nonprofit site with the straight skinny on a host of medical issues, researched by 85-year-old health writer (and cyclist) Norman Ford. To go directly to his important report on osteoporosis in male riders, click here.
